Overview
The Department of Language, Literature, and Communication (LL&C) is an internationally-recognized center for interdisciplinary education, research, and theory development. The department's program areas include composition and writing, computer-mediated communication, foreign languages, graphics and visual communication, interpersonal and organizational communication, literature and cultural studies, rhetoric, and technical communication.
The variety of academic programs offered by LL&C provides an interdisciplinary approach to the study of how people create and share meaning. The department offers:
Graduates of all programs have found a strong demand for persons trained in new communications technologies, and students are able to participate in the Jay R. Gould Student Chapter of the Society for Technical Communication (STC) to keep up-to-date on the latest technology and trends of the communication profession.
We are particularly strong in the study of scientific and technical communication, a field that was pioneered here at Rensselaer, and the range of our interests extends to such related areas as rhetoric, communication in organizations, and composition theory and research.
