Rowe notes, "For years, students have been directed to read their papers aloud to their tutors in Writing Centers, permitting said students to recognize many of the errors in their writing on their own. This idea allows tutors to better manage the session with the students, helping them with problems that they cannot identify. It also empowers the student to know that there are issues in their writing that they can correct themselves. However, too much time is being spent in the session with these students discovering the mistakes they could have rectified prior to meeting with the tutor."
The RNF is an opportunity for published researchers, new researchers, and graduate students to discuss their current research projects and receive responses from new and senior researchers. This year’s plenary speakers include Gail Hawisher, University of Illinois-Urbana; Keith Gilyard, Penn State; Eleanor Kutz, University of Massachusetts-Boston; and Cindy Selfe, Michigan Technological University.
