Co-Terminal 5-Year B.S. / M.S. Degree, Extended Student Aid - 08.13.2008

In Fall 2008, Rensselaer will begin to offer undergraduates the opportunity to extend their current level of financial aid and earn both a bachelor's and master's degree in five years.
In collaboration with this initiative, the Department of Language, Literature, and Communication (LL&C) will now offer its M.S. in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) as a co-terminal degree when it is combined with an appropriate bachelor's program. LL&C will also continue to offer its M.S. in HCI as a separate master's degree, both on campus, and by distance through EWP, the Education for Working Professionals office.
The M.S. in HCI enables students to gain production and research skills for usability testing and interface design. Rather than being constrained to interface implementation issues, this program integrates theory of computer usability and human communication theory with research and practice in designing and evaluating human-computer communication systems.
For co-terminal students who meet minimum admission standards, undergraduate financial aid is extended automatically for one year to complete graduate studies. Also, both degrees must be granted together, following the completion of the M.S. in HCI.
