Winners Announced for 2003 EMAC Capstone Exhibition - 05.30.2003

By Matt Iacovone

Jonathan Marcus and Maureen Duffy were recently named the top prize winners for their 2003 Capstone projects in Electronic Media, Arts, and Communication (EMAC).

Marcus' project, "Window, Tangent to Time," was an interactive video installation that utilized real-time manipulation of video to produce dynamic works of art. Video cameras were positioned in a store-front window to both capture and aesthetically transform the happenings of 3rd Street in Troy. "Touch Painter Chair," a human-computer interface prototype developed by Duffy, explored the utility of tactile feedback to an average personal computer user. A tactile feedback system was designed using a massage chair, a micro-controller, and a drawing application.

In addition to the two top prizes, eight students received honorable mention for their Capstone projects: Steve DeBellis, Rob Estevez, Ping Gu, Mike Kingsly, David Maurer, John Reiss, Catherine Renzullo, and Adam Varga.

Capstone is a culminating experience for senior EMAC students. This year's exhibition, held on April 25-26, showcased work in video, web design, animation, multimedia installation, graphic design, electronic music, painting, and sculpture. For photos from the exhibition, visit our Photo Gallery.
